The Microsoft Cooling Base for Notebooks -
Pros+
1. Thin and portable: I like how thin and light weight it is, its great if you are on the go compared to other notebook coolers i've seen its a lot thinner/lighter.
2. Air flow: A lot of airflow with little noise and only 1 fan! the single fan is in the middle and so far keep my laptop pretty cool.
3. comfortable: My Dell XPS gets pretty hot sometmes and is uncomfortable when its my lap. The cooling base has pretty much solved that. the contours makes using a laptop on your lap more comfortable
Cons-
1. The usb Connector doesnt have a output, so when you have this plugged in you lose a usb port, which are hard to come by on most smaller laptops.
2. This may not not really a con, but the stand on the base feels cheap and like it might snap off pretty easy, however it is pretty sturdy and doesnt wobble.
Overall I like the microsoft cooling base, it combines comfort, portability, and function to make using your laptop easier. I like it a lot better than Antec's NoteBook Cooler Cooling system for Notebook /laptop computers - NOTEBOOKCOOLER why? The microsoft cooling pad its more comfortable to have on your lap. the microsoft pad has a a stand which gives you a incline (great ofr typing). Portability Compared to the antec i think the microsoft pad is slimmer and lighter.
Other thoughts:
It is comfortable, when on a flat surface and the stand is up it provides a good incline which is better for typing. Lap usage, a lot more comfortable than simply using my laptop on my lap, the contuors on the bottom make it fit right in your lap and it keeps your lap cool.
Materials, its plastic, but it feels pretty sturdy, the stand could have been better made, however it works.
Size, the cooling pad fits my Studio XPS 13 pretty good,i have rrom when my laptop is on it so i think it could handle 17 inch laptops comfortably.
