I looked at countless reviews for other cooling pads in amazon but wasn't satisfied with any that was around $30 range. Most cooling pads worked for most people (from reviews) but no one clearly explained what significant change in temperature they observed in their laptops. Many cooling pads had good reviews for low fan noise, design, size and other features which I wouldn't look for in a cooling pad. I needed a cooling pad to save my hp envy from frying its processor at 80-90 degree Celsius.
Under normal conditions on a table surface, the temperature of my laptop ranged from 50-60 degree Celsius depending on workload and I wouldn't need a cooling pad for that. The temperature would have gone much higher on a bed but putting a laptop on bed would be foolishness. I would recommend using a book or a board when using a laptop on bed. The laptop would only heat up real high if I played graphically demanding games such as battlefield 3 or its likes. I have seen the processor reach 90' Celsius without a cooling pad.
With the cooling pad, games like mw3 or dues ex would run below 70' Celsius and I have hardly observed temperature above 75 even under intense workloads. Also on normal usage, the temperature ranges around 40-55 degrees but you might not see much effect on lower temperatures because cooling the computer from outside can only decrease the heat to a certain degree. Do not buy any cooling pad if your computer is running below or slightly above 60 degrees at heavy usage(running applications and videos, not games) because the size of the pad and the wires just make things uncomfortable. If you need to use it on lap or bed, buy just the plates and not the ones with fan.
If someone needs a cooling pad for laptops that actually heat up well above 60 degrees at least, then this product is the best one for you. And it does have adjustable fans which I didn't see in the description. OR if you are overprotective about your laptop because you spent well over a grand for it then buy it. You may not need it but a few more bucks wont hurt. I bought this product because the fan speed and the air output rate was clearly mentioned in the description which I didn't see for other products.
Pros:
Has 4 usb extensions (even though I never use them)
2 adjustable and 1 fixed fan.
High speed fans that pump enough air up on your laptop.
Cons:
The fans are not the quietest. They make as much noise as my laptop fan makes or slightly louder. Owners of silent macbooks might not like these fans.
They do not have rubber grips on the top surface. If your laptop has rubber grips on bottom then you shouldn't worry.
Might not be very comfortable for putting on your lap.
Not very solid protection below the fans but only plastic bars. The fans are well raised so that may not be a problem either.
May not be big enough for laptops above 15'
